Closing Party Circoloco @ DC10

The memory of the last big day out at DC10 for Carl Cox in Circo Loco is still fresh in the mind, from the initial buzz as it went live and had over 300 likes in less than 5 minutes to it rapidly becoming our biggest ever story with just under 4,000 likes and multiple shares. There is no doubt about it; the Monday party is one of the hottest topics on planet dance, our video of the opening party has been viewed by 30,000 people! As we finally get towards the end of a closing party schedule that incorporated over 18 parties in 12 days, the dream team is set to drop but try and keep Emma, Nic and Keith from going to DC10 if you dare as we get set to say goodbye to the craziest party of them all for yet another season. We can’t help but wonder how many people will set eyes on this story, let alone like it, we couldn’t beat the previous record could we…

Well what a season it has been. 2013 has seen a marked change in the DJ line ups, residencies and parties taking place all over the island. Loco Dice has gone from being a successful underground techno DJ to having a residency at Ushuaia. Jamie Jones has turned Paradise from being a Hot Natured disco party into a Wednesday night phenomenon. And everybody is playing at everyone else’s parties. But while the Ibiza clubbing landscape is forever changing, one party has stayed the same for years, the party that takes place every Monday that brings the whole island together, where tourists and locals alike go to see and be seen. It is the equivalent of going to church on a Sunday and some might call it a Lifestyle – it’s Circo Loco.

Each week DC10 and Circo Loco announce the following Monday’s line up on Facebook and it is always met with gasps of joy, multiple shares and calls to rally the troops, buy your tickets and organise the guest list – we all have to go. The line up announcement for the Circo Loco Lifestyle Closing Party was no different, in fact the reaction, if anything, was more extreme. With the news that the party would carry on until midday on Tuesday and with the opening of the ‘Garden’ as a third room, the anticipation for the closing was high and clubbers were desperate for tickets. After some heavy negotiating with our bosses and promises that we would be absolutely fine for work on Tuesday, we got our names onto the guest list and jumped in the car. Our arrival at DC10 was marred by the swarm of mosquitos that appeared after the rain and tried to savage us, but a kind bouncer sprayed me with repellent and I was on my way. We had heard the bass pumping before we even got into the car park, but when we got into the Garden, the party was already going off. System of Survival were playing a belter of a set, dropping classic tunes by Cameo, Virgo and Underground Resistance and even a Chaka Khan remix thrown in for good measure.

We moved between the Main Room, Terrace and the Garden for quite a while, the choice of DJs to see was so good it was impossible to pick one room to stay in. We eventually settled in the Garden to watch Apollonia and the new decking was given a run for its money by the huge crowd not only occupying it but having a serious stomp on it, as Dyed Soundorom, Dan Ghenacia and Shonky shook the smoking area. The DJs that followed playing back to back in the Garden were so good, it was the sort of treat the closing party deserved. Jamie Jones back to back with Seth Troxler, followed by David Squillace back to back with Mathias Tanzmann, with Jamie and Seth just warming up for their next set which would come at 11am on Tuesday morning!

After the evening we had had so far we didn’t really think it could get any better, but we kept checking our watches and phones for the time, because at 4am on the Terrace something special was going to happen. Marco Carola was playing. Words can’t really describe the next few hours, but when the Music On boss hit the Terrace, oh my god, did the red room go off. The dirty thumping techno was spot on for this crowd and as the Terrace got busier, the music got harder and just when you thought it was all over, Maceo Plex came on. Maceo Plex has been one of our favourite DJs to see this year and it can’t be long before he has a residency somewhere in Ibiza. The techno he played was absolutely relentless. This was no time for excuses; Marco Carola followed by Maceo Plex on the Terrace meant we needed to be dancing right down the front in the thick of it. We were packed like sardines in front of the DJ booth but that did not make any difference to how good this party was. We weren’t so much dancing, rather the whole crowd moved as one, dancing shoulder to shoulder, heads down, arms in the air, stomping to these two massive techno DJs who have both enjoyed an amazing season.

Circo Loco 2013 closing party was really something special and it was fitting that it ended with something special. Both Resident Advisor DJs of the Year and successful label bosses, Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler brought the house down from 11am-12pm on the Terrace. The room was packed, no one was going home and neither were we, until Jamie dropped the last track and the whole red room applauded. You cannot compare Circo Loco to any other party, this party makes you feel as if you are part of something special and as our photographer remarked on the way home as we drove past the hoards of people leaving the building ‘it’s a lifestyle innit?’
