Carl Cox Goes Circoloco IBIZA DC10

It’s almost a year since DC10 and Circo Loco last invited Carl Cox to take over its beloved terrace and that party still lives large in the memory of everyone that managed to make it into the famous room. Carl Cox is no stranger to DC10 and the terrace, in the early days he was one of many DJs that used to find themselves in there I the middle of the dancefloor every now and again. Nowadays, however, catching Carl Cox in DC10 is something of a rarity but when it was announced that he would be returning to Circo Loco for a four hour set, it’s fair to say that the club drums began beating, last minute flights were booked to the island and expectation levels went through the roof. Such was the magnitude of the last appearance; everyone wanted to make sure they were part of the fiesta this time around. Our trusty snapper was jopined by the cool film crew Louis & Clark as we made sure we brought you as much of the party as we could, for those of you not fortunate enough to be part of it. As you would expect, the island turned out in force, with Smokin Jo, Skin (Skunk Anansie) and even Pacha owner Ricardo Urgell all turned up in the DJ booth alongside the smiling Carl Cox. Essentialibiza’s Emma Bennett, it’s fair to say, has spent most of her time away from her desk in DC10 this summer, was champing at the bit to check out the monumental party, we couldn’t stop her even if we wanted to…

I think it’s safe to say I am a regular fixture at DC10. Circo Loco is legendary. It’s the naughtiest party of the week, always bringing the noise, bringing the filth and generally turning Monday’s from the worst day of the week into the best. However, NOTHING could have prepared me for the way it went off last night. With the big man himself, Carl Cox taking the helm for ‘oh yes, oh yes’ four hours. Circo Loco lives up to its name on a regular basis but there was something else in the mix that took the normally crazy party to another level altogether. The addition of Carl Cox, one of the biggest names on planet dance had added a real edge to the party as the fun levels threatened to take the roof off the Terrace and return it to its open-air glory!

As a regular, I think I have partying at DC10 locked down, managing my time between the Terrace and the Main Room perfectly. Last night, however, all I saw was red. Pulling up in the car park you could hear the bass pumping out from the Terrace and we knew this night was going to be something special. We tore past security, heading as fast as we could for the Red Room and there he was, wearing an Apache Indian headdress, leading the crowd in a warrior dance of his own. I have never recognised so many faces in the crowd, the island natives were out in force, Skin from Skunk Anansie was partying in the DJ booth, the tourists were in for the night of their lives and everyone went savage on the dancefloor. Glitter fell from the ceiling, balloons were floating through the air, people wearing inflatables, dressed as clowns and monkeys, wearing freaky masks and over-sized sunglasses was standard.

Carl played an absolute belter of a set, fusing his usual techno beats with a very DC10 tech house sound to perfection. He started hard and finished even harder, the crowd were hanging off every beat, shockin’ out to the bassline that vibrated through all of us and made it impossible for us to the leave the dancefloor even for a second, pouring with sweat and loving every minute of being at possibly the most hardcore fancy dress party in the world! We felt sorry for the DJ’s following Carl, how could anything compare to what we just witnessed? However, they all stepped up their game and the sets that followed delivered the dirty beats that we required after four hours of absolute filth. The Martinez Brothers kept the crowd jumping, Dan Ghenacia played some naughty tech house and Tale of Us were disgusting, playing seriously dark tunes and exactly what was needed at the end of the night. I think it’s safe to say we’ll be back next Monday.
